Suboxone added to Pharmacare

[From Kamloops This Week, October 15, 2015] In an effort to address what it calls a “prescription opioid epidemic” in the province, the Ministry of Health has added Suboxone to PharmaCare coverage.

The drug, a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, can be used in place of methadone in treatment of addictions to drugs such as fentanyl, heroin and oxycodone. The drug can only be prescribed by doctors who have had special training in that area of medicine and who are licensed to order the drug.
