Art Poon, is an Associate Research Scientist (Bioinformatics) at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS and an Assistant Professor (Medicine) at the University of British Columbia. His research focus is the development and application of new methods in bioinformatics, phylogenetics and machine learning to the study of virus evolution, with an emphasis on human RNA viruses like HIV and hepatitis C virus. Dr. Poon is the recipient of a Scholar Award from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
